In the project default to public – interventions in the field of digital self-exposure and physical privacy using the example of twitter by Jens Wunderling, the artist bridges the virtual space of the internet with the physical realm of our public squares. I appreciate here his desire to bring back feeling, touch, and felt engagement to our online world, a burgeoning place of organizing, communication, anonymity, and connection.
In this work, public tweets on the application Twitter are printed and spit out in a public space perhaps hundreds or thousands of miles from where the typist sits. The artists presses the sensitive issue, a double-edged sword, of the dangers and possibilities of virtual reality. Some of the best kind of art makes us aware of the real impact of our actions, words, and relationships.
