Acts of Self

QueerArtLAB invites thinkers, artists, practitioners, and artists of all ages to join us in a summer of Acts of Self. This experience is a hybrid of offline and online activism. We want to prompt you to explore, question, and delight yourself – your home, your body, your worldview – and in return, we ask you to share with us the photos, thoughts, video, and tangible evidence of your wanderings.

It works like this:

Starting on the International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia (IDAHOT), May 17th, we will provide a prompt. An example might be: “Where did all the foods of my breakfast today come from?”

In response, you might write a poem to the laborers who grew your oatmeal or make a photo exhibit of the inside of your refrigerator.

Every Friday from May 17th to August 2nd, you will receive a new call to an Act of Self on the QueerArtLAB facebook group page.

We invite you to dig deep. Ask hard questions about race, money, gender, sex, community, and power. As you complete your task for the week, please post it on the Queer Art Lab facebook group page for all to consider and enjoy.

Selected submissions will be added to the QueerArtLAB site at www.queerartlab.com.

    “Wear your favorite color.”

Sounds simple, right? Click over to our group Facebook page to show & tell us the how, why, what, and where of wearing your favorite color. Use music, visuals, and/ or the written word to share your story this week.

We will be back next Friday with prompt #2!

  2. Act of Self #5:
Describe your favorite taste in 10 words or less.

    Acts of Self, week 6.
